The key icon on a video thumbnail indicates that the content can only be accessed with a TV provider account or a credit. Why and when content may be locked is determined by business arrangements we may have with partners, including TV providers.
With a TV provider account, you receive access to all content in the app library. But if you don't have one, there are still ways to watch:
- On NBC.com, new episodes of returning NBC tv shows (i.e. shows that have been on the air for more than one season) are available to watch without a login or credits starting the day after they air on TV
- On the NBC app (and on some apps within the NBCU family of apps), new episodes of shows require a TV provider login or credits for their first week of availability; and then eight days after they air, they unlock automatically
In addition, the latest episodes of our newest shows are always available without a login or credits on both the web site and in the app starting the day after they air.
If you choose to watch without a TV provider account or credits, don’t let yourself fall too far behind. Many returning shows are provided with "rolling" availability, meaning that only a specific number of recent episodes - usually five - can be unlocked at once. So for instance, if Episode 1 of a returning series unlocks eight days after it airs, it will revert to requiring a login or credit again eight days after Episode 6 airs.
